Hillsboro, OH : Minor injuries in Thursday afternoon crash on Thursday, September 14th 2017
An afternoon car crash on U.S. Route 50 east of Hillsboro caused severe damage to one vehicle, but left the passengers with only minor injuries, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper at the scene. Trooper James Brooks told The Times-Gazette that Summer Rinehart, 29, Bainbridge, was driving eastbound on U.S. 50 near the Highland County Water Plant in a black 2017 Kia Sportage, and failed to keep assured clear distance behind a white 2003 Chevrolet flat-bed utility truck, driven by Branden Stephens, 29, Kingston, that had slowed to turn into a private driveway. The collision, which Brooks said most likely occurred at about 55 miles per hour, resulted in heavy damage to the front end of Rinehart’s vehicle. Both parties refused treatment at the scene, although Brooks said Rinehart’s family decided to take her to Adena Greenfield Medical Center for minor injuries. Brooks said she will be cited with failure to keep an assured clear distance. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have been a factor, Brooks said. The crash had traffic down to one lane for some time Thursday afternoon.
