Portsmouth, R.I : Portsmouth officer injured in crash with alleged drunk driver crashed into his cruiser early Saturday morning on August 2, 2014
A Barrington woman has been released from custody after a vehicle that police say she was driving erratically struck a Portsmouth police cruiser, injuring an officer who was inside.
The injured officer working the overnight road construction shift. He was taken to Newport Hospital, where he was treated and was released Saturday morning.
Police identified the woman whose vehicle hit the police cruiser as 24-year-old Bianca Jannetta. They say she refused to submit to a chemical sobriety test.
Jannetta was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was held overnight at the Portsmouth Police station.
She was arraigned Saturday morning by a justice of the peace who released her from police custody.
Rhode Island state police continue to investigate the accident.
