Morton County, N.D : New Salem man killed in crash near Mandan on Tuesday, June 14, 2016

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a New Salem, N.D., man killed Tuesday in an accident near Mandan.

Robert Slavick, 83, died at the scene when the 1970 Chevrolet pickup he was driving was struck by a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by Ryan Riveland, 35, Mandan. Riveland was injured in the crash; a passenger in the Ford, Avis Stegall, 24, Mandan, was not hurt.

Both vehicles were traveling westbound on Old Highway 10 when the Ford pulled into the eastbound lane and then swerved back into the westbound lane, striking Slavick’s pickup which was pushed into a ravine.

The accident remains under investigation with the patrol, and charges against Riveland are pending the Morton County state’s attorney’s review.
