Boston, MA : Concord-Carlisle school bus strikes man, dog in Boston on Friday morning, January 23, 2015
A school bus carrying several students struck a man and left a dog dead this morning in a jarring crash in the Back Bay, police said.
The man, who was in his 50s but not identified, was walking when he and the dog were hit shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Dartmouth Street, according to Boston Police spokeswoman, Officer Neva Coakley. He was rushed to nearby Tufts Medical Center, though his immediate condition was unclear.
There were an unidentified number of students on the bus, but they were not injured, Coakley said. No arrests have been made and police are investigating, she said.
Grim-faced pedestrians walked past the scene this morning near the corner of Dartmouth Street and Columbus Avenue, where the dog's body could be seen lying in the street covered by a sheet.
Police also taped off the front of the school bus, which was from the Concord-Carlisle regional school district.
Concord-Carlisle school Superintendent Diana F. Rigby was at the high school this morning and not available for comment, according to an assistant. A message left for Deputy Superintendent John Flaherty was also not immediately returned.
