CLAIBORNE COUNTY, MS : One killed in three car wreck in Claiborne Co. on Sunday, 25th September 2016

Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a car crash, involving three vehicles, at around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday.

The wreck happened on MS 547, about three miles south of US 61. Preliminary investigation shows that a Buick Enclave was traveling north on MS 547 when it crossed over in the southbound lane and side swiped a Buick Century.

MHP says the SUV then hit a Honda Accord, that was traveling southbound, head on.

The driver of the Century and the SUV were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. MHP says the SUV also had a front passenger that was air lifted to UMMC with serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda Accord, identified as 29-year-old Derrick Williams of Patterson, MS, was killed on scene.

Investigators say that alcohol could have played a factor in the crash. Chargers are pending blood lab results from the Mississippi Crime Lab.

The accident is currently under investigation.
