SEYMOUR, CT : A Seymour man is recovering from serious injuries after a crash on Friday, November, 17th 2017

A Seymour man is recovering from serious injuries after a crash on Derby Avenue in Seymour early Friday morning.

Just after 1:00 a.m., Seymour police responded to the intersection of Derby Avenue and Pine Street after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a crash. Upon arrival, officers located a pickup truck on its roof in the northbound lane next to a snapped utility pole, with wires down in the roadway. The driver of the truck, 45-year-old Ronald Rogers, of Seymour, was the only person involved in the crash. Officers said Rogers was trapped inside of his truck, and needed to be extricated by emergency responders.

Rogers was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police said that while Rogers sustained serious injuries, they do not believe his injuries are life-threatening.

Through the course of their initial investigation, officers believe that Rogers was driving north on Derby Avenue, but then failed to make a turn in the roadway. The truck damaged utility pole before striking a fire hydrant, then a tree, and then another utility pole. Police said the utility pole snapped in half, and then the truck rolled onto its roof.

Derby Avenue was closed for several hours Friday to allow utility crews to replace the damaged poles. No charges have been filed. The crash is still under investigation.

If you witnessed this crash, or if you have any information that could help officers in their investigation, you’re asked to call Seymour police at 203-881-7600.
