One person is dead after a car crash on US-54 Sunday afternoon.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Scott White, a passenger vehicle was struck by a truck after suddenly stopping in the left lane of US-54 eastbound near Hickory Hill.

The pickup truck landed in the highway's median and caught fire. The driver of the pickup truck, 54-year-old Mark Miner of Laquay, and the passenger in Klimenko's car were transported to SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as 80-year-old Alexander Klimenko, died on the scene, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said it is still investigating the crash. It is unclear if the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
