Athens, GA : An Elbert County man was killed in a one-car crash on Wednesday, August 2, 2017

An Elbert County man was killed Wednesday in a one-car crash on Georgia Highway 72 near Colbert in Madison County.

The Georgia State Patrol said Larry Emanuel Owens, 62, was killed when his 2007 Infiniti crashed about a half mile west of the Georgia Highway 172 intersection.

The crash was reported at 3:18 p.m.

Troopers don’t know why the car veered off the right shoulder and struck a ditch. The car continued for about 144 feet, where it hit a culvert, vaulted over end and landed on its top, according to the report.

The driver was ejected and died from his injuries at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, troopers said.
