ST. HELENA PARISH, LA : 1 killed, 1 injured in crash in St. Helena Parish on Sunday, 20th October 2024

A crash in St. Helena Parish early Sunday morning, October 20, claimed the life of one person and injured another person.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened around 2:40 a.m. on Highway 16 near Highway 449. Troopers said that Carey S. Austin, 33, of Independence, was killed.

The crash happened as Austin was driving a Ford vehicle west on Highway 16, troopers said. They added that for reasons still under investigation, the Ford veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

According to LSP, Austin was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Ford was critically injured and was rushed to a hospital.
