Port Charlotte, FL : Punta Gorda man killed in crash on Loveland Boulevard on Tuesday, September 13, 2016

A Punta Gorda man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said William Frederick, 32, was driving a Ford Mustang north on Loveland Boulevard, approaching Moses Court, when he hit standing water and lost control, crossing into the path of a Waste Management truck.

The truck tried to avoid a collision but was unable to. It eventually crashed into some trees.

Frederick died at the scene. The crew in the truck reported only minor injuries.

Troopers said Frederick was speeding when his car hit the water.

The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m.
