NEWPORT NEWS, VA : 4 lanes blocked, injuries reported after crash on I-64 in Newport News on Monday, 15th March 2021

Multiple lanes were blocked and injuries were reported Monday afternoon after a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 in Newport News.

Virginia State Police said it happened just before 2:40 p.m. on I-64, west of Victory Boulevard, or exit 256.

“Currently there are four lanes blocked,” police said around 3 p.m.

Officials said the crash happened after 22-year-old Cooper Plum, of Stafford County, swerved from the far right lane into another vehicle.

Plum hit a Hyundai Elantra from behind and kept driving, police said. He eventually stopped further up on the left shoulder.

Officials said Plum was charged with driving while intoxicated and taken to Newport News City Jail.
