Oneonta, NY : Officer suspended after DWI wreck on Wednesday, June 14, 2017
An off-duty Delaware County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer has been suspended after being charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash early Wednesday morning, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said.
Nathan P. Weaver, 39, was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle accident with a blood alcohol concentration in excess of 0.08 percent, all misdemeanors, and failure to keep right, a violation, deputies said. He was suspended without pay pending further disciplinary action, Undersheriff Craig DuMond said.
An investigation revealed that at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Weaver fell asleep while driving south on county Route 1 and his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane before leaving the roadway and hitting a utility pole and a gas pump at the Tremperskill Country Store before the vehicle overturned on its side, deputies said.
Weaver was issued traffic summonses by deputies and was released to appear in Andes Town Court on a later date to answer those charges.
In the release DuMond said, “Sheriff (Tom) Mills and I take these matters very seriously and do not condone or tolerate this conduct whatsoever.”
