New Castle, PA : Five reported hurt in Perry Township crash on Thursday, March 29th 2017
Five people were injured in a two-car crash Thursday in Perry Township.
State police responded to the collision at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Route 488 around 10:30 a.m.
According to a police report, Mary Ann Johnson, 62, of Harmony, made a left turn off of Pleasant Valley Road onto Route 488 in her Chrysler Sebring. A Nissan Sentra driven by Edward Lauch, 25, of 220 Kay St., Wampum, was northbound on Route 488, and collided with Johnson’s car.
According to scanner reports, the Lauch car rolled over, trapping him and three passengers inside. State police at the scene said the car’s door had to be cut off in order to remove the four occupants.
A news release from state police did not indicate if it was Lauch’s car that had rolled; however, state police Cpl. Randy Guy said Thursday afternoon that Lauch had three passengers and Johnson’s car had no passengers.
The names of Lauch’s three passengers were not provided by the police. Two from that car were flown to Pittsburgh hospitals and two were taken by ambulance to Butler Health System.
Guy said Johnson was taken to Ellwood City Hospital for minor injuries. She was cited for a traffic violation, according to the report.
The Wurtemburg-Perry and Ellwood City fire departments assisted the state police at the scene. Both cars were towed.
The road was closed in both directions for about an hour.
