Pittsburg, CA : Driver dead a fatal crash on Highway 4, west of Loveridge Road on Sunday afternoon, July 17, 2016

The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office coroner's bureau has responded to the site of an apparent fatal crash Sunday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Officers responded after receiving word at 4:06 p.m. of a vehicle crashed into a tree along eastbound Highway 4 just west of Loveridge Road and found a male behind the wheel of a gray pickup truck, a CHP dispatcher said.

Firefighters with the Contra Costa Fire Protection District also responded to provide emergency care, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Check back for updates.
