Roanoke, VA : One man is dead and a woman has been hospitalized following a single-vehicle accident on Friday, November, 3rd 2017
One man is dead and a woman has been hospitalized following a single-vehicle accident late Friday in Roanoke County.
Police said the crash happened just after 11 p.m. at the intersection of Williamson and Malvern roads, near the Advance Auto Parts store in the 5300 block of Williamson.
According to Roanoke County Police Sgt. Ray Torres and spokeswoman Amy Whittaker, a Toyota passenger car struck a box truck in the parking lot of that business while attempting to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed. The box truck was not occupied.
The 36-year-old driver of the Toyota, Elijah Lewis, was hospitalized but died from his injuries, Torres said in a news release early Saturday.
The car’s passenger, Sarah Taylor Jayne, 44, of Roanoke, was hospitalized as well.
Torres described her injuries as serious. She was listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
The wreck is still being investigated. Neither of the passengers wore a seat belt, police said.
