SOUTH BEND, In : Man killed in South Bend crash on Wednesday, 2nd January 2019

Police say a man has been killed in a crash on Country Club Road in South Bend. The St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) is investigating.

The crash involving a silver Chevrolet Malibu happened around 2 a.m. Thursday close to the South Bend Country Club. This is near a curve where Country Club Road turns into Fillmore Road.

Firefighters say the car was on fire when they arrived.

Police say there were two people in the vehicle. The second person, a woman, was thrown out.

Investigators say the woman was able to walk to a nearby home for help. She is now at Memorial Hospital.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The road reopened around 6:45 a.m. on Thursday.
