Porterville, CA : Man dies in crash after stabbing his girlfriend in Porterville on Friday, May 13, 2016
A man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend and almost killed her, then died after his car hit a tree, Porterville police said.
About 1:40 a.m. Friday, police arrived at a traffic accident on the 200 block of North Main Street and found two wrecked cars -- a Hyundai that had hit a tree and a 2013 Honda in the middle of the street with major damage to the rear.
Inside the Hyundai, police found a 37-year-old man from Richgrove who died in the crash.
Inside the Honda, police found a 32-year-old woman with major injuries who was taken to Sierra View hospital. Police learned she had been stabbed several times before the collision.
The case still is under investigation, but police said she was attacked by her estranged boyfriend in her home on the 1000 block of North Luann Street in Porterville.
He threatened to kill her, police said. She disarmed him, was injured and got away, fleeing in her car, police said.
The estranged boyfriend got into his car and chased her, intentionally ramming her car several times.
He pursued her at 80 mph or faster, lost control and struck the tree, killing him instantly, police said.
The woman lost control of her car and collided with a wall.
Their names are being withheld due to the nature of the crime and to notify next of kin, police said.
