Officers were able to locate the truck a short time later at a gas station at Highway 99 and Ashlan. The driver and two people inside the car are now being questioned at the CHP office for their involvement in this fatal collision. Investigators say all three were caught trying to cover up the crime.

The front end of the truck was smashed and leaking fluid. When officers arrived, they found the driver and passengers trying to wash off evidence from the truck. "We're proceeding with it as if it was a homicide investigation. But we have 3 parties involved that were in the process of washing down the vehicle," said Sgt. Leonard Sherman, CHP.

The CHP says that witness was key in identifying the suspects and a Fresno Police Department officer moved in quickly to make sure they were detained.

During the investigation, two lanes of Highway 99 were closed, leaving just one lane open for several hours. Traffic was backed up past Avenue 9 as rush hour drivers had limited options to cross the San Joaquin River into the Fresno area. All lanes of Highway 99 opened around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The CHP have only identified the victim as a 23-year-old woman. It is unknown why she was in the roadway.

Officers say they say the suspected driver had an obligation to stop after the crash, and that's why he and others are now being questioned. Investigators said the suspected driver was licensed and insured, but could now face several charges including: felony hit and run, aiding and abetting.
