Columbus,OH : A Warren woman died on may, monday 8th 2017
A Warren woman died at a local hospital following a two-vehicle crash Monday morning in the township along Johnson Plank Road, east of North Park Avenue.
Marye E. Urey, 59, 1509 Niles Cortland Road, was the only person involved in the 8:05 a.m. crash not wearing a safety belt, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said she was driving west on Johnson Plank Road in a 2001 Chevrolet Venture van when a 1998 Buick Regal four-door driven by Mark J. Donaldson, 18, 5087 Greenville Road, Farmdale, traveling east crossed left of center and hit the van head on.
Urey’s vehicle went into a ditch on the side of the road, landing at a 45-degree angle with the passenger side door in a position that would not allow it to be opened, Bazetta Fire Chief Dennis Lewis said.
Urey and her passenger, Melissa Urey, 25, also of Warren, were trapped inside the van. The front end and engine compartment of the vehicle were pushed back toward the passenger compartment, pushing the front dashboard into the women’s legs, reports state. Firefighters used an extraction device to force the door open, but could not free the women even after cutting the van roof.
Emergency crews then used a device to move the dashboard from the women’s legs so the two could be removed.
It took the firefighters approximately 38 minutes to remove Marye Urey and another 20 minutes to free Melissa Urey.
The two women and Donaldson were all taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital with Donaldson and Melissa Urey each suffering non-life threatening injuries. However, Marye Urey was in critical condition and later died at the hospital, officials said.
Champion, Bristol and Cortland Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
The patrol is investigating. No charges have been filed.
