Lagrange, MO : Heindselman dies in ATV accident on Route C near LaGrange on Monday night, August 8, 2016

Russell L. Heindselman, 88, died Monday night when the ATV he was operating overturned on him.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Heindselman was driving a 2003 Polaris Sportsman ATV south on Route C near LaGrange about 8 p.m. when the vehicle struck a mound. Heindselman was ejected, and the ATV landed on him.

Heindselman was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. by Lewis County Coroner Larry Arnold.

Heindselman was well known as a conservationist, inventor and a "hillbilly poet" whose written works were sent to newspapers and other publications over several decades. He was recently recognized in The Herald-Whig for inventing a wasp trap to deter the pests from nesting in bluebird houses.
