Augusta, GA : Man killed in 4-vehicle wreck in Columbia County on February, Sunday 25th 2018

A man died Sunday in Martinez after the car he was riding in drifted toward oncoming traffic and caused a four-vehicle wreck.


Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins said the victim was pronounced dead at the intersection of Belair and Columbia roads in Martinez. Authorities withheld the victim’s identity until next of kin could be notified.

A black Nissan Maxima was traveling south on Belair in the inside lane, and witnesses reported the car crossing the center turn lane, according to Maj. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

The Nissan struck the left front side of a blue Ford F-150 truck, then spun counterclockwise into northbound traffic. The Nissan then veered into the path of a red Chevrolet Tahoe that was behind the Ford, in Belair’s northbound inside lane. The red Tahoe hit the Nissan, sending both vehicles into the outside lane, hitting a white Chevrolet Tahoe also traveling northbound.
