Stroudsburg, PA : 17-year-old driver died in A crash in a Pocono Township on Thursday, August 11, 2016
Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania
The 17-year-old driver who died in a Pocono Township crash on Thursday morning has been identified as Khalil Carrington of East Stroudsburg, the Lehigh Valley Coroner said.
According to a police report, Carrington was found unconscious after the crash and his 18-year-old passenger, Quran Lopez-Barnes, crawled out of the car after the crash. One was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital and the other to St. Luke's Hospital.
Police said they were called to a cul-de-sac at 6:45 a.m. Thursday on Park Lane in High Mountain Estates in Pocono Township for a suspicious vehicle— a black Nissan Maxima— that was parked there, and it was an ongoing problem.
Police said when they arrived there were two people sleeping in the vehical. A marijuana grinder with a small amount of marijuana and pipe could be seen on the center console.
Police woke the two individuals and the driver handed the marijuana items to an officer when directed to do so, police said.
Carrington gave a name and information that eventually turned out to be fake, while Lopez-Barnes gave the officer his correct information. When the officer, Cpl. Daniel Kresge, was checking their information, they fled in the vehical, heading toward Hallet Road.
As they headed down Park Lane two deer came into the road. Their vehical struck one of the deer and went out of control going off the roadway, striking a large rock and several trees before landing on its roof.
Carrington was taken to St. Luke's hospital, Bethlehem Campus, where he was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m on Thursday. The manner of death has been ruled an accident.
