A woman was injured after her car struck an ambulance on the Maine Turnpike early Saturday evening, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Chriaashawn Young-Rice, 47, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was attempting to pass a United Ambulance of Lewiston while she was traveling in the northbound lane around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, McCausland said.
The ambulance, driven by John Malcolm, 26, was not transporting a patient and was returning from Boston, McCausland said. Neither Malcolm nor the other attendant in the ambulance was injured.
Young-Rice’s car ended up overturned in the woods along the turnpike, according to McCausland. She was taken to Maine Medical Center for head injuries McCausland described as serious.
No other information was available late Saturday night.
