Clinton Township, MI : Man dead and another in critical condition after they hit by a car on Gratiot Avenue in Macomb County on Wednesday morning, April 13, 2016
One man was killed and another critically injured when both were struck as they crossed Gratiot Avenue in Clinton Township early Wednesday, police said.
The deceased man is a 56-year-old Clinton Township resident. The injured person is a 36-year-old man from Eastpointe. He was taken to McLaren Macomb hospital in Mount Clemens, where he was listed in critical condition.
Police have not released the names of either of the victims.
According to police, the accident occurred about 6 a.m. along Northbound Gratiot, south of Hall Road near Capitol Street. Police said the men were crossing Gratiot from east to west when they were struck by a northbound Dodge Ram pickup truck.
The driver stopped his vehicle immediately, police said, and tried to render aid to the men. He also contacted emergency personnel and waited for their arrival.
Neither alcohol nor excessive speed appeared to be factors in the accident, police said.
Police described the location of the accident as a “poorly lit section” of Gratiot, about 150 yards from an intersection and a crosswalk. The speed limit at that location is 45 miles per hour.
Authorities are looking for assistance in conducting the accident investigation.
