Berlin Heights, OH : Elyria man dies after car vs. motorcycle crash in Berlin Township on Sunday, April 9, 2017
A car-motorcycle crash April 9 at the intersection of state Routes 61 and 113 in Berlin Township claimed the life of a 47-year-old Elyria man, according to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Sandusky Post.
Eric P. Tillman was pronounced dead at 10:41 p.m. at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, which is where he was flown for treatment following the crash, the release said.
Tillman, who was traveling with a 45-year-old Elyria woman, was headed east on Route 113 on a 1993 Honda motorcycle prior to the collision.
According to the release, Kelly M. Mantz, 37, of Seville, was headed south on Route 61 when she failed to obey a stop sign and pulled out in front of Tillman’s motorcycle.
Tillman then struck the Fusion’s passenger side, which caused the motorcycle to overturn and eject both passengers, the release said.
Both Tillman and his female passenger landed off the roadway on the southeast side of the intersection, the release said.
The female passenger was flown to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for treatment and was listed in critical condition as of 10:41 p.m., April 9.
Mantz was uninjured in the crash, according to the release, and her 16-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries that were treated at the scene. Both were wearing their seat belts.
Tillman was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but it is unknown if the 45-year-old woman wore one, the release said.
Neither alcohol nor drug use appear to be factors in the crash and no charges have been filed as the incident remains under investigation.
