Redding, CA : 38-year-old man dead in a single-vehicle crash on East Stillwater Way south of Highway 299 on Saturday night, March 14, 2015

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a person late Saturday night east of Redding.

The fatal crash occurred on East Stillwater Way south of Highway 299 about 10:20 p.m.

The CHP said the victim was a 38-year-old male who died from blunt-force trauma. His identity isn't being released until his family has been notified of his death.

Officers said the man was driving a 2001 Volkswagen south on East Stillwater at a "high rate of speed'" just south of Tomkens Way when he hit a large dirt berm and his car went into the air.

The car then flipped and the man - who was not wearing a seatbelt - was thrown from the car and died at the scene, officers said.

Officers don't know whether alcohol or drugs factored into this crash.
