TREVORTON, PA : 3 injured in Trevorton area crashes on Sunday, 2nd October 2016
Three people were injured in two crashes that called Trevorton area emergency responders into action twice in six hours Sunday morning.
In the first accident, Amanda L. Hitchcock, 48, of Watsontown, was driving south on Route 890 when she lost control of her 2006 Chevrolet Silverado on a hairpin right curve at the base of the Trevorton Mountain in the village at 5:44 a.m., state police at Stonington reported. Her vehicle crashed into guard rail on the opposite side of the highway and slid approximately 100 feet on its undercarriage before coming to rest in a depression adjoining the lawn of a private residence.
Emergency crew members said Hitchcock was confined and special equipment was used to release the driver's side door in order to free the woman. She was transported by Trevorton Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after being extricated from her wrecked SUV, which was heavily damaged.
Hitchcock, who was wearing a seat belt, was cited by Trooper Nicholas Berger for driving at an unsafe speed.
The second crash occurred about 11:50 a.m. on Route 225 in Little Mahanoy Township, about three miles west of Trevorton.
State police said Heather M. Blankenship, 28, of Shamokin, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala west when she lost control while rounding an uphill, left-hand curve in the road. The vehicle went across the highway, struck a dirt embankment and traveled parallel to the road for approximately 100 feet, flipped and came to rest on its roof.
Blankenship, who is pregnant, suffered an arm injury while her passenger, Barry L. Keefer, 20, of Newville, also was injured, police said.
Both occupants were wearing seat belts and transported by AREA Services Ambulance and Trevorton Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center.
Blankenship was cited by Berger, who investigated both accidents, for driving at an unsafe speed.
Volunteers from Trevorton Fire Company and Trevorton Ambulance responded to both crashes. Herndon Fire Company also responded to the second call.
