Johnstown, CO : 2 killed, 2 hurt in rollover crash on I-25 near Johnstown on Monday, December 1, 2014
Two people died in a single-car rollover crash on Interstate 25 near the Johnstown exit, the Colorado State Patrol reported Monday night.
The crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. at mile marker 253 in Weld County. Two other people in the car were injured and taken to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.
Devin Gomez, 21, of Denver, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer south on I-25 in the left-hand lane when he lost control of the vehicle for reasons that are still under investigation, said Trooper Nate Reid, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol. The Explorer rotated counterclockwise into the median and then went into a broadside skid, rolling twice.
The Explorer rolled through the median and came to rest in one of the northbound lanes, Reid said.
Both directions of I-25 were closed until about 1 a.m. as troopers investigated.
Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing his seatbelt, Reid said.
Mercedes Parker, 14, of Thornton, was not wearing her seatbelt. She was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and also was pronounced dead at the scene, Reid said.
Melanie Guillory, 42, and Aliana Guillory, 14, both of Thornton, were taken to MCR for treatment.
Melanie Guillory was wearing her seatbelt and sustained moderate injuries, Reid said. Aliana Guillory was not wearing a seatbelt and also was ejected from the Explorer. She sustained serious injuries. She was listed in fair condition Tuesday afternoon.
The crash remains under investigation, but troopers don’t think speed, alcohol, drugs or road conditions were contributing factors, Reid said.
Gomez and Aliana Guillory’s deaths mark the 48th and 49th traffic fatalities in Weld County this year.
This time last year, there were 33 traffic-related fatalities on Weld roads and a there were 37 deaths by the end of 2013.
