Piermont, NY : 85-year-old artist has brush with death as she crashes SUV into gallery showing her work on Sunday afternoon August 31st 2014
A suburban New York artist crashed the opening of her own exhibit. Literally.
The Journal News reports Hilda Epner accidentally drove her sport-utility vehicle through the front of the Piermont Fine Arts Gallery while parking Sunday afternoon.
Witnesses told the newspaper the 85-year-old Epner appeared to press the accelerator instead of the brake, sending the SUV into the gallery's large front window at full speed.
The vehicle left a trail of glass behind as it came to a rest against an art-filled wall.
The Rockland County gallery is showing a two-week exhibit of Epner's abstract acrylic paintings.
The newspaper says she was shaken but not seriously injured.
