Three people die in separate car accidents in Virginia and Maryland

Two people were killed Friday in separate car crashes in Fairfax County, and a third was killed early Saturday in a crash in Frederick County, authorities said.In the first crash, a woman was killed on Route 50 in the Chantilly area when her car went out of control, left the road and struck a pole, Fairfax County police said. Authorities identified her as Erika Alvarado, 39, of the Chantilly area.They said she had been heading east near Sullyfield Circle when the crash occurred.A preliminary investigation indicated that speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash, police said.In the second crash, a man died after two Honda Civics collided head-on Friday afternoon. This collision also took place in the Chantilly area, police said.Authorities said the accident occurred on McLearen Road near Cobra Drive just before 4 p.m., when a westbound 2012 Civic left the road and then swerved into the eastbound lanes. The car hit a 2000 Civic, police said.
