Buffalo, N.Y : Elderly Orchard Park man seriously injured in Amherst crash on Friday, February 24, 2017

An elderly Orchard Park man was seriously injured about noon Friday when he apparently lost control of his vehicle on the west ramp of the I-290 to Niagara Falls Boulevard, according to Amherst Police.

Earl C. Besecker, 86, was taken to the Erie County Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of back and chest pain and abrasions he suffered in the crash, according to Capt. Patrick McKenna, head of the Amherst Police Accident Investigation Unit.

Besecker was rounding a curve on the ramp when he went off its east side and went through a gassy area before hitting a concrete barrier and going airborne and back onto the ramp, McKenna said.

Once back on the ramp, Besecker's vehicle spun around and crashed into the guardrail on the west side of the ramp.
