Iredell County ,NC :Motorcyclist taken to hospital after I-77 hit-and-run On Wednesday night ,July 1st 2015

A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after a wreck Wednesday night on Interstate 77 near mile marker 51 in Iredell County, troopers said.

The motorcyclist was southbound when he or she was hit by a white van that swerved to avoid a third vehicle attempting to merge.

The motorcyclist hit the guardrail and was later taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The two other vehicles left the scene and might not have known that there was an accident, troopers said.

The investigation is considered a hit-and-run.

Both directions of the interstate were closed but reopened shortly after the accident.
