ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA : Covington woman dies in Alleghany County crash on Tuesday, 18th June 2024

A 19-year-old woman has died after a Tuesday crash in Alleghany County, according to Virginia State Police.

Officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash at 8.15 p.m. on Route 687, one-half of a mile north of Route 830.

Police say the driver of a Toyota Camry was traveling south on Route 687, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the jersey wall of a bridge. The car then continued down an embankment and overturned, catching fire.

The driver of the Toyota was injured and taken to a hospital. The passenger, Aleigha Lashay Angle of Covington, was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene, according to police.
