Allegheny County, PA : Motorist killed in Penn Hills crash on Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2016
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office has scheduled an autopsy Saturday afternoon for a motorist killed in Penn Hills.
Penn Hills police Sgt. Paul Markham said India Allen, 22, of Penn Hills, died after her Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility vehicle left the curving Frankstown Road near McCutcheon Lane shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday, striking a utility pole.
“It's not an especially dangerous curve if you drive the speed limit,” said Markham, who noted the roadway's posted 35 mph sign.
The pole was one of two poles near the crash site. Duquesne Light was in the process of installing a new one, following a similar crash “sometime this month, maybe last week,” Markham said.
Penn Hills police Chief Howard Burton told the Tribune-Review that his department will continue to investigate the crash, and awaits the results of the autopsy, but said there were no obvious signs of driver impairment.
“Apparently, she just didn't negotiate the turn and then she struck the pole,” he said.
