Carter County, TN : Woman killed in a crash on West US Highway 60 in the Globe community of Carter County on Sunday, 30th September 2018

Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Carter County Sunday evening.

Senior Trooper David Boarman said in a press release the crash took place at 5:37 p.m. near the junction of Reeves Lane on West US Highway 60 in the Globe community of Carter County.

Boarman said Marsha Scott, 61, of Morehead, was operating a 2006 Pontiac Montana mini-van, turning left on to US Highway 60 from Reeves' Lane when she didn't see a motorcycle traveling eastbound.

"The motorbike, a 2000 Suzuki Marauder, was being operated by Terry Johnson, 43, also of Morehead, and carried his wife, Tonya Johnson, 43, as a passenger. Evidence on scene indicated Mr. Johnson attempted to avoid the collision through braking, before laying the bike over on its left side, but was ultimately unable to dodge the mini-van. The motorcycle struck the mini-van close to its front left fender.

"Tonya Michelle Johnson, the passenger on the motorcycle, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Carter County Coroner, William Waddell," Boarman said. "Terry Johnson was transported to Saint Claire Medical Center for treatment, and was later air-lifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Both were wearing helmets. Neither occupant of the Pontiac was injured."

Boarman said no charges have been filed as a result of the crash and alcohol is not a suspected contributor. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Bobby King, who was assisted on scene by Carter County EMS, the Carter County Coroner’s Office, and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
