MEMPHIS, TN : Lanes clear after overnight crash on I-40 left 2 injured on Monday, 14th October 2024

A person is dead following a crash on I-40 near Appling Road that blocked westbound traffic for hours early Monday morning.

Officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to the crash Monday, Oct. 14, around 12:30 a.m.

Investigators said a vehicle had been heading west on I-40 when it rammed into an unoccupied vehicle. Before the crash, the owner of the unoccupied vehicle had left the car to check on damage from a previous crash. The person was then hit by the impact caused from the following crash, leading to the person's death.
