LAKELAND, FL : Lakeland crash kills 1, sends 3 others to the hospital on Thursday, 30th April, 2020

A single-vehicle crash in Lakeland killed a 22-year-old Bartow man and injured three others late Thursday night, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Khristian Anderson, 22, of Bartow, was driving a blue 2009 Honda Civic westbound on Ewell Road in Lakeland, near Pinewood Village Circle East, just before midnight when he reportedly swerved to avoid a piece of metal lying in the road, PCSO spokesman Scott Wilder said in a news release Friday morning.Anderson lost control of the vehicle, and the Honda began to rotate and slide clockwise as it left the road and went onto the grass shoulder before going through a barbed wire fence about 30 feet north of the edge of the road, Wilder said.

At the same time, the Honda also struck a utility pole guy-wire — causing the Honda to flip, he said.

The vehicle came to a stop in a vertical position about 50 feet into a wooded area, with the rear of the car flat on the ground and the front of the Honda sticking straight up into the air, Wilder said. It was leaning on several trees, he said.

The front-seat passenger, Justin Alford, 22, of Bartow, was found partially ejected out of the back window on the left side of the Honda when first responders arrived, and he was declared dead at the scene, Wilder said. He was not wearing a seat belt, the PCSO said.
