Gettysburg,PA : Gettysburg man dies in blimp crash on June, Tuesday 27th 2017

The 403-feet-long blimp floated along about 300 feet above the Atlantic Ocean on July 7, 1960. The airship, one of the four largest in the world, didn't even have a name. It was known only by its call sign ZPG-3W.

Aviation Metalsmith Second Class Fred Furney was among the 21 Navy officers and crew on board as the blimp flew on a rescue mission 15 miles off the coast of Lakehurst, N.J. Two yachts, part of a race from Rhode Island to Bermuda, had been reported missing, and the Navy had been sent to find them.
