Sand Creek,MI : Stolen car found crashed on Sandy Creek Road on December, Friday 29th 2017
A car that was reported stolen about 2 a.m. Friday from the parking lot of Larson’s Bar was found soon afterward crashed in a ditch on Sandy Creek Road, according to Monroe Police Department and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, both of which were involved in the investigation.
As a result of the car theft, a Monroe man has been arrested and taken to Monroe County Jail. The investigation also has been submitted to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office.
The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu belonged to an Erie man, who had started the engine while the vehicle was parked at Larson’s, 713 Stone St. During the few minutes of when he started the car and came back outside, a Monroe man was ejected from the bar for causing a disturbance. When the Erie man came outside, his car was gone.
The victim called an emergency services representative from OnStar vehicle services to ask for assistance. Once OnStar verified with Monroe County Central Dispatch and Monroe Police Department there was a theft in progress, the service located the vehicle, learned it was stopped and activated a wireless ignition lock.
A sheriff’s deputy checked on the location tracked by OnStar, and found the car crashed in a ditch in the 2200 block of Sandy Creek Road. The car had heavy damage on its front and left.
At the time, a man was standing near the Chevrolet, claiming he had been a passenger and that the driver walked away to call for a tow truck.
But the deputy noted in his report that there were no footprints in the snow leading away from the car. As a result, the man was taken to Monroe Police Department for further questioning. He is believed to be the same man who was kicked out of Larson’s, according to reports.
