Desoto County, FL : Five people dead and one child in critical condition in two-vehicle car wreck on State Road 70 in DeSoto County on Sunday night, Aug 9, 2015

Five people died and a child was critically injured in a crash on SR-70 in DeSoto County Sunday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Ford-F150 was traveling eastbound when it hydroplaned on the wet roadway and crossed into the path of a Volkswagon.

The driver of the Volkswagon attempted to avoid the collision, but hit the back of the pickup truck.

The driver of the truck, Jennifer Zuniga, 30, of Venice, died. Her passenger, Cort Thivierge, 6, was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.

All of the occupants of the Vokswagon suffered fatal injuries and have been identified as Lamour Welch, 29, Antwayne Robinson, 25, India Welch, 24, and Tehira Welch, 18.

The crash remains under investigation.
