VAL VERDE COUNTY, TX : 8 dead in crash after DPS chase in Val Verde County on Monday, 15th March 2021

Eight people are dead in a major head-on crash after a chase involving Department of Public Safety troopers, the Val Verde County Sheriff's Office confirmed with KENS 5.

The incident occurred outside Del Rio around 1:40 p.m. Monday afternoon. A DPS spokesperson said the crash stemmed from a pursuit involving troopers and a red Dodge Ram along US Highway 277. According to the sheriff's office, all eight people who died were in that vehicle and two people in the Ford F-150 they hit were taken to a hospital in San Antonio.

They said that the driver of the suspect vehicle fled the scene, but was taken to Val Verde Regional Medical Center. It's not clear yet what charges that driver will face.
