LOWER HEIDELBERG TOWSHIP, PA : Exeter man dies in Reading Hospital after car crashes into porches in the 500 block of Brownsville Road on Friday, 21st June 2019

An Exeter Township man was pronounced dead in Reading Hospital after his car crashed into two front porches Thursday night on Brownsville Road in Lower Heidelberg Township, officials said Friday morning.

Kevin Smith, 64, suffered a heart attack before the 7:50 p.m. crash in the 500 block of Brownsville Road, directly opposite the entrance to Blue Marsh Lake's State Hill Boat Launch access drive, according to the Berks County coroner's office.

Both porches were damaged, but the car didn't hit the foundation walls of either home, Lower Heidelberg police said.

Smith was driving westbound from State Hill with his wife in the front passenger seat when he slumped over at the wheel, Chief Deputy Coroner Jonn M. Hollenbach said.

A resident immediately began performing CPR on Smith, Hollenbach said. Emergency medical personnel took over life-saving efforts and transported him to the hospital. A staff doctor pronounced him dead at 10:49 p.m.

The death was ruled due to natural causes.
