RICHMOND, CA : Richmond woman drowns in Russian River canoe accident on Friday, 4th November 2016
A Richmond woman drowned in a canoeing accident on the Russian River near Healdsburg on Friday, authorities said Saturday.
Heidi Boley, 69, was canoeing with two friends when the canoe accidentally overturned, deputies with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said.
Two people in the canoe were able to swim to shore but once they got there, they couldn’t locate their other friend, authorities said. They were able to find a vineyard worker, who called 911.
Deputies responded shortly after 12:30 p.m. with a helicopter to search for Boley. They, along with firefighters from Healdsburg, Geyserville and Forestville, found Boley roughly an hour later in the river under some tree limbs.
They pulled her body out of the water and brought her to the shore, where she was pronounced dead.
She was wearing a life jacket, authorities said.
