2 killed after semi, car collide head-on in Springfield Tennessee
Two people were killed and a third injured after a semi-truck and car collided head-on early Wednesday morning in Springfield.The crash took place in the 6800 block of Highway 49 near Highway 25, approximately 30 miles north Nashville, around 5:30 a.m.
Ventrell Blakemore, a passenger in the car, was killed instantly.
The driver of the vehicle, Antonio Crawford, was flown via LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he later died.According to Tennessee Highway Patrol investigators on the scene, the car was traveling west when Crawford, for reasons unknown, crossed the center line and hit the semi, which was traveling east.
Officials said the 18-wheeler was carrying 40,000 pounds of concrete and its driver couldn't avoid the collision.The truck driver sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital.Highway 49 was closed for most of the day while officials investigated.The cause of the crash wasn't immediately released. Officials said drugs and alcohol were found in the car and could've played a factor.
