Two Calhoun County residents were killed Saturday night in a one-car crash involving a deer in Calhoun County.
According to Sheriff Greg Pollan, around 8:20 p.m., seven residents were riding in a Chevy Tahoe when it struck a deer on County Road 308 near County Road 327 near Big Creek.
Caylee Beth Leachman, 16, of Bruce and Thomas Leon Macon III, 16, of Slate Springs were both pronounced dead on arrival to Calhoun Health Services.
Claire Carter and Emily Logan were both airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center and remain there. Hanna Tedder was taken by ambulance to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital where she remains. Catlin Doler was treated at Calhoun Health Services and released, as was Jennifer Nix who was airlifted to Regional Medical Center at Memphis.
Pollan said the driver lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and a witness reported the car flipped end-over-end 10 times.
