A pizza delivery driver was charged with possessing marijuana after crashing his vehicle down an embankment in South Congaree.
Police were called to the crash scene on Pine and Gerrie Streets at about 8:40 Saturday night. The vehicle went off the road and down a 8-foot embankment, running over some trees. The driver was not hurt.
According to the incident report, the driver, who was a pizza delivery driver, told police "his car was 'sucked' off the road due to his vehicle being out of alignment."
The driver's name is Kevin Elvis Arch, 22, of Wisconsin.
A witness who had been following the vehicle "for some time" told officers the driver "was all over the road and driving in the wrong lane for a period of time and then the vehicle darted to the left running off the road and into the trees."
Upon approaching the vehicle, an officer reported a scent of what was believed to be marijuana coming from a window. Arch gave the officer permission to search the vehicle and the officer reported finding "a quantity of a compacted green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and 6 zip lock bags containing the same.
Arch was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving.
