Officials were still working Sunday to notify the next of kin of two people killed in a wreck on U.S. 59 near El Toro.
The crash occurred at 4:16 p.m. Saturday when a southbound vehicle entered the northbound lanes of U.S. 59 on an overpass above Farm-to-Market Road 234 for an unknown reason, said Sgt. Deon Cockrell, Department of Public Safety spokesman.
A 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling southbound in the inside lane on U.S. 59 North, according to a press release Sunday from Cockrell.
A 2003 GMC Sierra was traveling northbound when it was struck head-on by the Chrysler PT Cruiser. The PT Cruiser skidded into the center median as the Sierra struck a 2003 Dodge STL towing a utility trailer traveling next to it in the outside lane.
The STL came to rest in the roadway and was struck by a 2005 Infiniti G35, which was traveling behind the PT Cruiser.
The driver of the 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser was pronounced dead by Judge Darren Stancik at the scene.
