Saline County, IL : Woman died after traffic crash on Route 13, two miles east of Carrier Mills Road on Saturday, Aug 29, 2015

Illinois State Police say a Saline County woman has died after a traffic crash on Saturday.

The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. on Illinois Route 13, two miles east of Carrier Mills Road.

Troopers say 27-year-old Kristen Lee Day was headed west in the passing lane.

For unknown reasons, her vehicle drove off the roadway and onto the shoulder.

Police say Day was initially able to drive the car back onto the highway, before she lost control.

The vehicle began to slide across the pavement and into the median, where it overturned.

Troopers say Day was not wearing a seatbelt. She was ejected from the vehicle.

Police say a 17-year-old female passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained only minor injuries.

Both Day and her passenger were transported to local hospitals.

Day was later transferred to a hospital in Evansville.
