A single-vehicle crash left one dead and four injured early Wednesday on northbound U.S. 15 near Thurmont, according to state police.
The driver, Michael Scott Edbauer, 44, of Clarence Center, New York, was killed when he fell asleep behind the wheel of a 2013 Honda Pilot at about 5 a.m. on U.S. 15 near Angleberger Road in Lewistown, according to state police. Edbauer wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car when it swerved into the center median and overturned, according to a state police news release.
Edbauer’s adult passenger, 42-year-old Theresa Fisher, also of Clarence Center, and three children in the car were all wearing seat belts and were taken to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown with minor injuries, the release states.
U.S. 15 was reopened to traffic in both directions as of 8 a.m., but an investigation into the crash continued Wednesday morning. Master Trooper David Greenwood, a collision reconstruction expert with state police, was handling the investigation, the release states.
