Merritt Island,FL: Car crashes into health center in Merritt Island on August, Monday 21st 2017
A Brevard County woman is recovering after troopers said a car crashed through the wall of the health center at which she was a patient, and hit her.
The crash happened at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center on Alma Boulevard, authorities said.
A spokesman for Island Health and Rehabilitation Center said the woman was taken to a hospital to be checked, as a precaution.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a 35-year-old Cocoa man was driving on a dirt road about a block from the rehab center when he passed out, lost control of the vehicle and went off-road.
The Highway Patrol said the car went across a field, through two fences, and then through the wall of the rehab center.
Witnesses said it was remarkable there were no serious injuries.
A statement from the Highway Patrol said troopers on the scene suspected the driver was under the influence of drugs.
Authorities are awaiting the results of a blood test to decide whether to charge him with driving under the influence.
